Teleperformance ‘SAMARTH’ – Reducing Barriers & Enhancing Skills

Teleperformance - 08.02.2017

A program to include talented individuals from different backgrounds, abilities, and uniqueness

Building an inclusive and diverse workplace has been top of our agenda at Teleperformance – with Gender Diversity & providing employment to Differently-Abled people taking center stage for our efforts. Over the past few years, we have been able to foster this culture through various programs focused on individual unique abilities and needs, creating greater value for the world at large.

One step at a time, our efforts started with a focus on balancing gender ratio in the working population led through the #GenderSmart initiative which started a few years ago. This was joined by our endeavors to create a more hospitable workplace for the differently-abled people a couple of months back with ‘SAMARTH’. The initiative was launched across our sites in India to sensitize the existing workforce towards embracing differences and sparking innovation through empowerment. Also making necessary infrastructural changes to onboard differently-abled individuals to the taskforce.

Limitations are only in our minds

Currently, Samarth has helped onboard over 40 differently-abled individuals across our sites working for fortune 500 brands and serving their global customers and the plan is to exponentially grow the strength, as we learn and create more possibilities for this section.

Over a small period of time, our new hires have immensely reinforced the confidence of everyone around them in the organization, contributing effectively to the business despite their limitations, or rather perceived limitations. Every day their work proves that limitations are only in the mind. Affiliated to this feeling, we recently hosted Shalini Saraswathi, a quadruple amputee athlete, to meet with the team and share her inspirational winning battle with life within five years of a grievous tragedy in her life. In 2013, Shalini lost both her hands and legs to a rare bacterial infection when she was pregnant with her first child. Fighting against all the odds with an infectious zeal, she recently participated in a 10K marathon in Bengaluru and is preparing for the Asian Games in 2020. She has also resumed her career as Deputy General Manager.

In this warm conversation with Shalini held at our Indore center where we have over 21 differently-abled employees, her words strongly reverberated with their spirit and left an everlasting impact in everyone’s minds. Click below to get a glimpse of her inspirational journey:

Thank You Shalini. Teleperformance Salutes The Survivor in You!

Stepping up our commitment towards an inclusive workplace

Shalini’s session became a step forward in our endeavors to sensitize employees and also facilitate our current Samarth recruits for the passion they bring to Teleperformance and the inspiration for many others in the community. It is with this passion, and our clients and global teams encouragement that truly aids the vision of being a more Responsible People Company. Do share your experiences in becoming one.
